On Tuesday August 9th over 75 students gathered for the Georgia Game Developers event at Gwinnett Technical College. The event, How to break into game dev and esports, was from 6-9pm and students, faculty and gamers from across the state attended to get a first hand look at some of the indie games and studios that were present, network with others and attend the 2 educational panels offered by the GGDA.
The first panel focused on game development and panelist included Hi-Rez Studios HR director, Beat the bomb development team and voice actor/entrepreneur Bob Carter.
The How to break into game development panel opened with backgrounds on each panelist and was quickly followed with a tips and tricks session. Some of the points covered were on how to get a job in the industry, what skills are most important, where you can go to get job skills, what to include in a portfolio and what it takes to make it in this industry.
The Second Panel ( esports panel ) How to break into Esports
Panelist included the following; Atlanta Premier Founder Chase Peterson, Adjunct professor at Georgia Film Academy / Program Director at Skillshot, Cooper Fiscus-van Rossum and Owner of Eastside Esports League, Jeanna Dawson.
